Telling our Endo-stories
I strongly believe that we should be able to tell our stories, and we especially need to be able to tell our endometriosis stories. Many of us have never really told our endo-story before, even to those nearest and dearest to us, because:
a) we may be embarrassed by the details
b) we feel that no-one has the time to listen
c) no-one can really comprehend
d) we may worry that those listening think we are exaggerating, or
e) we don’t want to appear like we are searching for a pity-party
But telling our endometriosis story has power - and it may be one of the most powerful medicines for us on earth - switching off our toxic stress hormones and switching on the relaxation response that releases healing hormones. Telling our endometriosis story can function as a preventative medicine and a treatment.
Telling your story helps you make sense of your life — why certain events happened the way they did. You begin to examine what has happened to you and through you.
Telling your endo-story also connects you to others. It reminds you that you are not alone and your lonely experience becomes a shared experience.
I really want to encourage you to write, submit and share your endo-story here. You will notice my own story on this site, and when I wrote it, I found it so cathartic. I realised how much I had battled and how much stronger I am as a person due to endometriosis. Telling my story also made me even more passionate to help all of you!
